Planning Ahead for Your Home Remodel Project

Embarking on a home remodeling project is a big decision, whether you’re updating your bathroom or expanding your home with an addition. No matter the size or financial investment of your project, you want to work with a reputable contractor who will provide you with an accurate estimate for the work to be done.

At House Lift, we take the time to fully explain the remodeling process, including the timeline, an estimate of costs, and any potential obstacles we may encounter. We know that the more thorough we are in the initial stages, the smoother the project will go.

Here are the first steps you should take to get your home remodeling project off the ground.

Initiate Your Home Remodeling Project

The work on your renovation begins before you pick up the phone to schedule a contractor visit. Before your first meeting with House Lift, you should understand what you want and need out of your project. You’ll also want to have an idea of what you are able to comfortably and reasonably spend. We suggest that you write down your list of needs and wants and the budget you’re comfortable with so you can refer to it when speaking with contractors.

Once you have your list and your budget, it’s time to give House Lift a call to schedule your complimentary consultation. During that meeting, we’ll discuss your ideas and your budget and come up with a plan for moving forward.

Many homeowners also choose to work with us to complete the design for their projects. By investing in design at this point, you can avoid headaches down the road that could derail your construction timeline and your budget. If you decide to use House Lift’s design services, we’ll sign a design agreement at this time.

Allow Us to Take a Closer Look

We’ll ask to walk through your space with you so we can assess the current condition of the home and make a plan for any possible issues. Once you have a firm plan or design, House Lift’s experts will use their observations and notes from our conversations to create a budget estimate of the cost of your project. This estimate will include materials, labor, permitting and inspections, and a timeline for your project’s completion.

Once your estimate is ready, we’ll walk through it with you in person so you have the chance to ask any questions you may have.

Sign an Authorization to Proceed

When you are ready to move forward, we’ll ask you to sign an authorization to proceed with 3 percent down, which is credited on your project. We understand that committing to your remodeling project is a big decision, both financially and in terms of time. Many larger projects can take months to complete, and trust in your contractor is extremely important. Whether you choose to work with us or not, we want to make sure you are comfortable with the professional you decide to hire.
